The district basketball tournament will take on a different look for Ava teams this year.
For the past several years Ava teams have played in the district tournament at Cabool. However, through a restructuring of the district format, Ava will travel to Hollister this year and compete with Class 3 schools in District 11.
The Ava Lady Bears are seeded fifth in the tournament and will begin play Monday night, Feb. 18, facing No. 4 Springfield Catholic at 5:30 p.m.
Girls’ semifinals will be played on Wednesday night and the championship on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m.
Tournament seedings in the girls’ bracket include (by rank): Fair Grove, Strafford, Blue Eye, Springfield Catholic, Ava, Conway, Hollister and Forsyth.
The Ava boys’ are seeded fourth and will play Blue Eye in first-round action at 5:30 on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Boys’ semifinals will be played on Thursday, Feb. 21, with the championship to be decided on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 5 p.m.
Boys’ rankings include Strafford as the top seed, followed by Hollister, Fair Grove, Ava, Blue Eye, Conway, Springfield Catholic and Forsyth.
Schools are classified and district assignments are restructured every two years.
