Officers with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office took a woman into custody on Jan. 8 after receiving a report that she was passed out in her car on a city street.
Kayla Lee Orton, 24, of Hollister, was arrested by Sheriff Chris Degase and Sgt. Vernon Johnson after Sgt. Johnson received information that she was passed out in a car on NE 3rd Street in Ava.
Sgt. Johnson located the vehicle and said it was obvious Ms. Orton was impaired. Several other people who had allegedly been called to give Ms. Orton a ride showed up at the scene and Sheriff Degase also responded to assist the deputy.
Sheriff Degase reported he observed hypodermic needles, a baggie containing morphine and Klonopin. Also found were bags of K2/incense, five bags displaying the brand name “Donkey Punch” and two bags with the brand name of “Fish Food.”
Ms. Orton was arrested and taken to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office where a probation and parole warrant was issued. The appropriate paperwork has been filed to obtain local charges.
A second female, Stephanie Taylor, 31, was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Taney County. She later posted bond.
