Last Weeks News – December weather has been mild, and we will have to brace ourselves for colder temperatures moving in soon. There hasn’t been enough rain yet, to fill ponds and saturate the ground. The lake and creeks have been lower than usual for this time of the year, and some large trees have died for lack of moisture. Some wells had to be redrilled.
Sympathy is expressed to the family of Patricia (Smith) Rackley deceased of Dora, MO.
Belated anniversary wishes to go to Bob and Betty Arnett on their 47th, December 23rd.
We have lost a good citizen and the best acquaintance and fellow worker that our community has ever had when Barney Douglas passed away Saturday morning.
Our family was saddened when we lost my nephew, Warren D. Moody Friday, December 21st. He has had health problems developing the past months. His wife, Neoma, and son, Dan, and his family has our sympathy. Warren was a musician, playing the fiddle with gospel and bluegrass music and was quite popular at the weekly jam sessions held at the Senior Center in town. He will be missed.
I had a Christmas Eve phone call from my cousin, Wade Crawford, and wife, Mickey, from Romona, California.
I also have a new friend in Indiana who keeps up with the news I write each week as she has family connections in southern Missouri.
Dave and Karen Davis, Tara Miller and boys, Lisa Keller, Chet and Dana Taylor and I had Christmas Eve dinner and gift exchange at Keith Davis’ home. His daughter, Jaycee, was also there.
It was good to hear from Peggy Jo (Boone) Walker in Nashville, Tennesee at Christmas, She and husband are busy in the music business.
Karen K. Davis had surgery on her shoulder Wednesday morning in Mountain Home and is recuperating at home. She and Dave had Christmas with their son, Larry’s family at grandson, Ben Mitchell’s home, Tuesday.
Happy Birthday to Charlene Pitcock in Forsyth December 27th. She lost her father in December at Conway Springs, Kansas.
Marlyn and Lyndon Pitcock were here from Forsyth and Fair Grove Wednesday for their cousin, Warren Moody’s funeral service and came on for a short visit with me after the burial at Lilly Ridge. My niece, Carol Aronis, and husband, Paul, came from Springfield for her cousin’s funeral, also.
Prayers are for Marsha Lyon as she goes this Thursday to her doctor in Springfield. Her wounds from stomach surgery are not healing properly and she expects to have more surgery right away. Prayers are for her and her husband also, as he also has health problems.
Mearl and Beulah Satterfield spent the holidays at their place near Sparta. Karen Livingston celebrated her birthday Christmas Eve.
Friendly Neighbors Club will meet January 3rd if the weather is suitable.
Gainesville Chapter 432 OES meets the 2nd Monday evening which will be January 14th.

This Weeks News – The first week of January has quickly passed and following all the deaths before and during Christmas time and there have been several more this past week. The families who lost loved ones have our sympathy.
Lilly Ridge Church had their bi-monthly dinner Sunday and enjoyed by a few families who stayed after services. The church business meeting was held Sunday night.
It was good to hear from friends during Christmas season. Some of those were Dean and Dorothy Davis in Lawrence, Kansas and Bob and Cheryl Katon, my good neighbors who moved to West Plains.
Speaking of the holidays friends of mine, Paralee Rea and Robert Arnett said they had declared a “do-nothing holiday” in our nation.
My cousin, Wade Crawford, from Ramona, California called at Christmas time and his wife, Mickey, also.
Sympathy is expressed to all who lost their loved ones. Among those were the LaWanda Poe family.
Belated birthday wishes to Matthew and Michelle Moody on January 1st and 2nd.
From the Udall area Pete and Imogene Mitchell’s daughter, Katy Woolery, appreciates everyone for cards and prayers in her behalf for her lung problem.
Best wishes to Karen K. Davis as she recuperates from shoulder surgery she had the day after Christmas, in Mountain Home.
I have a new friend in California who enjoys our local news columns, and requested that I mail her copies, sending me postage for them. She learned about them from a friend in Nebraska who got some information on the internet as well as from another person. She said her mother wrote a column over 60 years ago in Nebraska.
Sympathy is expressed to the James E. Curry family of the Douglas County Herald as he passed away Tuesday, January 1st.
Ed and Karen N. Davis had their children all home for their belated Christmas dinner last Sunday.
Sympathy to Lynn (Gott) Hicks in the loss of her son Danny (Ray) who was killed in a truck accident near Ava, Tuesday, January 1st.
Best wishes to Jeff Cowart and Audrey Appelson who were injured by a cow they were working with at their pasture.
Joe and Lou Arta Corbin have their granddaughter, Madelynn, five years old, visiting them. They attended the wedding of Shasta Blisard and Curt Saunders at the Wilderness Church at Silver Dollar City and reported that it was a beautiful wedding although a snow storm caused traveling problems, and some from Arkansas couldn’t make it there.
A thought to ponder is that “inflation marches on making it possible for people in all walks of life to live in more expensive neighborhoods without even moving.”
