The ladies met for a Bible Study, Thursday morning. They are reading and studying lessons in Paul’s Epistle to the Colossians. Paul’s desire for the Colossians and all the churches of Asia was, “That you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God”
Norma Stillings and Bobbye Priddy took their turn vacuuming and dusting in the sanctuary and side rooms of the church after the Bible study. People take turns doing cleaning so that the church can always look good.
While the ladies were studying, enjoying fellowship over their Bibles, and doing the cleanup later, Pastor Bob Sorensen and Jim Corder were working outside on the exterior of the church. They are doing repairs and putting new siding on the back of the church. The men are doing the labor on the repairs to the church, so that the funds that were given to do that work will stretch further. Volunteers are always welcome when work is being done on Thursdays and some special Work Days.
Bob Helms read a tribute to veterans during the Sunday school hour, before our senior veteran, Adrain Owen, left for the Veterans Day Service at the Ava Cemetery. Then Darlene Sorensen read a tribute to veterans in the 11:00 AM service. The people at Bethany Baptist Church are grateful to the men and women who have stood in harm’s way to protect our nation and preserve our freedoms.
The Youth Choir sang some songs of Thanksgiving based in Psalm 100 before Pastor Bob Sorensen brought a message on “The Goal of Every Christian.
Jesus told his disciples and the Jews who were with them in the temple, “And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.” (John 8:29) It should be the desire of every Christian to please the Father and it is also the key to answered prayer. “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” (1 John 3:22) Scriptures leave no doubt that the Father is pleased when souls are saved. It is said that there is joy in heaven over the recovery of even one “lost sheep.” The Father is pleased with an obedient Christian who goes through life seeking the Father’s will.” He is pleased with our faith, for without faith it is impossible to please him. The Father is pleased when a Christian answers his call to service and remains faithful in it. He is pleased when a Christian gives sacrificially of his substance and his self. The Father is pleased when a Christian shows the right spirit, not lead by the flesh, but by the Spirit to a Holy life.
