We honored our Veterans this week in recognition of their sacrifice and gave a great big appreciation to all who were present in worship service. I hope everyone in our community took time to give their appreciation to those special people who served their country for our freedoms. We just can’t say enough about the sacrifice they unselfishly gave for their country and the freedoms we have now.
Our message was from Phil. 4:4-9 when Paul reminded Christians to be thankful in all circumstances. Bro. Oren’s message title was “Give Thanks Anyway”. Paul rejoiced in having a personal relationship with Jesus. He turned even the bad things that happened to him into a praise and thanksgiving. We don’t have any trouble remembering give thanks in to good times, but even when things aren’t going our way, we should give thanks anyway. Think about how many ways God has blessed you. Those little things we take for granted here in our country would be a major blessing in other parts of the world.
Keep those on the prayer list lifted to God this week. Pastor Oren put a very special friend and pastor who needs our prayers. He has been very ill and needs God’s touch. Also remember those who are grieving lost loved ones. Pray for the family of Dwight Hart, Wanda Moore and Dick Walker. Pray for Hailey Johnson who has been ill and Max Decker, JG Heinlein, LaVern Ashby, Louann Curry and Lena Pierce.
Remember on Sunday November 18th, the Lesters will be performing for both morning worship services. Please come and invite a friend. Our Choir practice is meeting at 4:30 p.m. Sunday Nov. 18th to practice for Christmas and to go over one more time our special song for Thanksgiving services. This year our community Thanksgiving Day service will be held at the United Methodist Church at 6 p.m. Our regular Sunday evening services will be dismissed so we hope to see you at the Methodist church that evening. Our community has a lot to be thankful for and praising Him as a community of churches is showing our love and commitment to Christ.
Wednesday night Nov. 21st, our Bible study will be dismissed due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Enjoy getting that turkey ready and sharing the holiday with family and friends.
We want you to know that if you don’t have a church home we want you to feel welcome here at Ava General Baptist Church. We have 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services with Sunday school tucked in-between at 9:45 a.m. We have a wonderful nursery for safe and loving child care as well as children’s church for each service for children over the toddler age.
Remember Paul’s advice and turn those worries into prayer and keep the mind on things that are good and pure. The Joy of Christ comes only by knowing Him and He gives us that peace in knowing He is in control. See you Sunday and God Bless.
