Sunday, Sept. 30 was the seventeenth Sunday after Trinity. Bishop Hartley based his sermon on the scripture readings for the day on the theme of our preoccupation with self leaving no time for God’s purpose. Psalm 10 is on the ungodly who are so proud that their lives are futile. In the Old Testament reading from Exodus 5 Moses tells Pharoh to “let my people go…” but Pharoh in his pride refuses to do so and suffers the consequences. The collect prayer asks that God’s grace follow us and “make us continually be given to good works.” The epistle reading, Ephesians 4:1, lists the Christ-like qualities of meekness and long-suffering that are the mark of the Christian.
Saturday, October 6 is our annual Blessing of the Animals at 2:00 p.m. honoring the feast day of St. Francis, patron of animals. The public is invited to bring their pets to receive a blessing.
