Good news! It is God’s desire that everyone turn to him, praise his wonderful love and grace, and through Jesus Christ and faith in him, a person can turn in an instant and make the decision to follow Jesus and make him their Lord.
We are beginning to recognize that our enemies are not men and women individually, but the enemy is the spiritual force behind their actions. When men and women choose to ignore the word of God and follow their own instincts in life, they will be taken advantage of every time by their own lust and by the thief (James 1:14-15).
The thief, who is the devil, practices deception with a thought, idea or suggestion that sounds good, but leads to sin. However, Jesus died and took the sins of the entire world upon himself so that we might be dead (unresponsive) to the temptation of sin. 1Peter 2:24, says, Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. The Holy Spirit who indwells each believer will convince us of our righteousness and lead us away from the desire to sin, his being the gentle urging that feels like, “You don’t want to do that, you don’t want to think that” when the opportunity for sin arises. Thank you, to the Holy Spirit for his guidance!
But, when an unsaved person or a believer who misses the mark considers sin in their thoughts, and allows it to play out in their mind, it causes the sin to conceive in the heart, and at that point, sin enters into a person and the thief gains a grip on that person’s life. If it is not repented of, that sin will eventually grow stronger and become a stronghold in their life that is very difficult for them to overcome without help. A strong hold is “anything on which one relies” according to the Strong’s Concordance.
Second Corinthians 10: 3-6 says, For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedienceis fulfilled.
We have a choice. Remember from our earlier lessons, repentance is a good thing. It means someone has decided to turn from doing things their way to doing things God’s way. God’s desire is for us to be lead by the Holy Spirit, Romans 8:2, For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
A person has the choice to turn toward God and the law of the spirit of life in Christ by casting down the thoughts, ideas or suggestions of sin, and not allowing them to be conceived in the heart. That is the first step, to keep our own hearts clean, to toss the thief and his lies out of our thoughts and prevent access to our hearts.
Addictions are strong holds of sin. Ask any gamer if they ever thought they would be addicted to video games when they first started playing and they will say no, just like the person addicted to violence, drugs, television, (Yes, television can become a stronghold in one’s life. If you don’t think so, try turning it off for a week and see how it affects you. When people ignore God’s commands and the Holy Spirit’s leading, by not casting down imaginations that will lead to sin, they exercise their liberty to their own hurt and the hurt of others, unless they repent or are stopped some other way.
What other way can they be stopped?
Through God to the pulling down of strongholds, through prayer and the words we use everyday. These three things, while keeping our hearts clean, when put to use regularly, will bring victory to Christ’s church, will change you and your family for the better, and will change our great nation for the better. There have been times in history where Christians raised arms to fight a war, and our troops continue to serve with honor throughout the world in defense of freedom, and we thank God for them and the law enforcement officers who serve our localities and catch those people who have crossed the line of legality. But, the believer’s battle is spiritual. According to the Bible, our fight is not against people, our fight is against the devil, the thief, the liar, the adversary, who was defeated by Jesus Christ over two thousand years ago. We are to enforce the victory Jesus won through our words and our prayers, using the name of Jesus, like our troops enforce freedom and our officers enforce the law, we enforce God’s truth. We have confidence in God’s word.
All things are under Christ’s feet. All things. Let’s say that again. All things. Every name that is named is under Christ’s feet and we are the body in Christ here on the earth.
In other words, believer’s are Jesus’ ambassadors here on earth and we overcome the thief by the blood of Jesus and by the words we use and pray. Here is what God says in Revelation 12:11, And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
The sleeping giant is beginning to awaken, and if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are a giant in Him.
Until next time, God bless you and your loved ones.
