Springfield Police have reported that an Ava man is charged with leading officers on a chase and with carjacking in Springfield over the weekend.
Jimmy Hayes, whose age is listed as 32, is said to have run from Ozark Police after they tried to stop him on a suspected DWI charge early Sunday morning. He later crashed the car he was driving in Springfield.
Later in the day Sunday, Hayes allegedly used a handgun to take a car from a woman at the Walmart store on South Campbell in Springfield.
The suspect, who also uses the name Cecil Hayes, was tracked to a house in Springfield where he surrendered to police after about a 30-minute standoff, according to Springfield TV and radio reports.
Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase said local authorities have had numerous dealings with Hayes, including a case that is pending at this time.
Reports also show that Hayes has been convicted for vehicle theft in Douglas and Greene counties.
Court records show Jimmy J. Hayes is charged in Greene County with 1st-degree robbery, two counts of armed criminal action, and 1st-degree attempted robbery. Bond is set at $100,000.
Cecil J. Hayes is charged in Christian County with shooting a firearm at or from a motor vehicle, resisting arrest by fleeing, 1st-degree property damage, assault with a deadly weapon, and armed criminal action. Bond in Christian County is set at $250,000.
