Ava Woman Dies In One Vehicle Crash May 3

A 65-year-old Ava woman, Joy L. Stainbrook, died last Thursday morning when the pickup she was driving ran off the road, hit a tree and overturned.

The wreck occurred at 10:15 a.m., 12 miles east of Ava on Highway 76 in the Coldsprings area of Douglas County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the eastbound 2001 Ford pickup ran partially off the right side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle returned to the road, skidded out of control, traveled completely off the right side of the road, struck a large tree and overturned, completely ejecting the driver. The vehicle came to rest on its top in the ditch.

Stainbrook was pronounced dead at the scene by acting coroner Steve Wood.

The wreck was investigated by Sgt. Keith Jones of the Highway Patrol.

This was the 11th fatality crash in Troop G in 2012 compared to nine at the same time a year ago.
