Sunday, May 6 was the Fourth Sunday after Easter. Bishop Hartley based his sermon on the Epistle for the day, St. James 1:17, in which St. James tells us that “every good and perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of lights. This can refer to the earth and the natural abundance produced by nature such as water and sunlight and fertile soil but on a spiritual level refers to the gift of new life given us through Christ.
The Connell family reported on a good weekend spent at Jefferson Barraks in St. Louis where Lincoln participated in the annual World War II re-enactment held there by the Second Rangers group of St. Louis. Lincoln participates in the re-enactment group the 84th infantry, the Railsplitters, and owns an authentic WW II uniform. They had many photos of the exciting event.
On Sunday afternoon I drove to Springfield for the annual President’s Concert at Hammons Hall, in which the MSU Orchestra and chorus performed a major work for choir and symphany. This year’s work was “The Creation” by Joseph Haydn, an oratorio based on his creation story in Genesis and the performance was excellent.
