It is a beautiful day even though it is cloudy this morning. There is beauty in every day for every day is the Lord’s day. This day of worship at Breedon Church began with Brother Roy Hampton reading St. Luke12:37&38, then led us in the opening prayer. Our Sunday school lesson today was Acts 10. It is a good lesson showing that Cornelius from Caesarea who was not a Jew, was a man that had favor in God’s sight. God told him to send for Peter and told him where to find him. God was also working on Peter in that he fell into a trance, seeing a great vessel resembling a huge sheet with four corners letting down all mannner of “four footed beasts; wild beasts, creeping things and fowl of the air.” God told Peter, who was hungry before falling into the trance, to get up, kill him an animal and eat. Peter being a Jew was proud in responding to God , he had never eaten anything common or unclean. God corrected Peter telling him, “What He had cleansed to not call it common or unclean.” This occurred three times before the vessel returned to Heaven. Peter was questioning what this vision meant and the men Cornelius sent arrived. Peter was told by the Spirit they were there and to doubt nothing. Peter and some men from Joppa went with those that Cornelius sent. The next day, Cornelius, his kinsmen and friends that he had called together, met Peter and fell down to worship him.Peter could have got a big head over this but he did the right thing in telling them to get up for he also was just a man, the same as they. Here is my favorite part of this chapter; Peter acknowledged to this gathering that God had corrected him in not keeping the Jewish tradition, by not keeping company with any one that was not a Jew and to not call anything common or unclean. He told the people, “of a truth I perceive that God is no respector of persons.” Anyone that feared God and worked righteousely was accepted by Him. Peter preached Jesus Christ crucifixion and resurrection and whomever believed on Him would receive remission of sins. To summerize this chapter, the Holy Ghost fell on all of them that heard the word and Peter commanded them to be baptized. Praise God that no longer the Gentiles were left without acceptance of God through their belief on Him and no more was there a cause for the Jews to feel they were of a more righteous appearance to God. The barrier was broken down and now the Jews and the gentiles could come together in and through Jesus Christ. We got adopted in. Glory to His name.
We entered into worship with congregational singing and the special was sung by Sue Sisco called, “The Church.” This is rather an old song but it is good to remember that the church is here until God calls us home. No government can break it and no evil power can shake it. Glory to His Holy name. Brother Roy Hampton sang, “Take Time Out for Jesus.” We all are so busy and so little time we give to God and His son. He took time for us to hang on a cross and die for our sins. Surely there is time throughout a day that we could give Him. God forgive me that I too am guilty of this.
Our service changed to worship with Brother Cub taking his text from Acts 2:14-to the end of the chapter. Faith. What is faith? There are many faiths or denominations. What ever one you worship in, know it is not the denomination you feel you belong to that will lead you to Heaven. Faith is the evidence of things unseen. Hebrews 11:1; “We can’t see the cleansing of our hearts. We can’t see ourselves living in Heaven, yet by hoping and putting our trust in Jesus Christ we call upon Him to forgive us of our sin and save our soul.” Acts 2:21 states,”And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” It is not something you work for. You can’t buy it. You are not righteous enough for salvation. Yet the blessed Son of God, Jesus Christ is waiting and willing to forgive you. Free of charge, with no strings attached. I pray for the lost that their hearts will be softened and their eyes will see that there is no sin they have done that Jesus cannot forgive, except rejecting Him. When we stand in judgement, and we all shall some day, how can Jesus mediate before our Holy God and ask Him to pardon us if He doesn’t know who you are because you refused to accept His grace. Hebrews 9:27 states, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement.” Read verse 28 and search your heart. If Jesus is knocking, let Him in then you will appreciate the hope we have that is given in this verse. Everyone have a blessed week and continue taking time for Jesus. God bless you all real good and let’s remember our military for their protection. Let’s ask for comfort to those that have lost a loved one. Also remember the sick and so much of the time we forget to pray for their caregivers. Anyone that has had to care for a loved one that is very ill, you know how stressful it can be. It can take a toll on you so let’s not forget to pray for them. It would be good to ask and see if there is something we might do to give them a break from time to time. Goodbye for now and God bless you over and over again.
