Local Quilting Guild Meets April 12

The Piece & Friendship Quilt Guild met on Thursday, April 12, at the Ava General Baptist Church. Twenty-two members attended and started the evening with social time at 6:30 p.m. and refreshments supplied by members. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m.

Starting with reports, Pat Henry, chair of the program committee, announced the program next month will focus on quilting tools and gadgets.  Members are asked to bring a favorite tool and explain why they are fond of it.

Orange challenge blocks will be due at the May meeting and the quilts blocks will be part of a discussion on color use. The blocks will be combined in a quilt for charity.

Ways & means committee head, Sara Sawyer presented prizes to the meeting winners.

Debbie Stone of the Helping Hands committee for baby quilts is still collecting quilt blocks for “Newborns In Need.”  Debbie is also accepting any donated newborn items for mothers in need.

The meeting program was part two of an educational video on threads and needles.  During the evening, the group learned about the different types of fibers used for thread, importance of selecting the proper needle for machine quilting, and adjusting thread tension when machine quilting with different threads.

The meeting ended with show and tell, and members displaying their latest projects.

The Piece & Friendship Quilt Guild meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Ava General Baptist Church.

The meetings unite quilters of all ages and abilities for the purpose of friendship, inspiration, motivation and education.  Visitors and new members are welcome.
