Sunday, January 22 was the third Sunday after epiphany. The episcopal hymnal has hymns for each season of the Christian year and today we sang the epiphany hymn, “Brightest and Best of the Sons of the Morning,” one of the lovelies of hymns, which we only do during epiphany.
Bishop Hartley based his sermon on the epistle for the day, Romans 12:16, “Be not wise in your own conceits” in which St. Paul warns us against pride and egotism and gives instructions on dealing with evil: “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.” God wants us to trust in him and not in our own selves.
Stephanie Connell’s mother, Helen Freeman of Norwood, has been seriously ill in the hospital and we have received word that she passed away on Sunday. We have no word yet on funeral arrangements, but we wish to express condolences to the family.
Everyone is welcome at St. Francis Anglican (Traditional Episcopal) Church where Bishop Glen Hartley holds services at 10:30 a.m. Sundays and 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Visit our website at stfrancisavamo.org.
