Sunday, January 15 was the second Sunday after the Epiphany and was also the 34th anniversary of the founding of our congregation on January 15, 1978. Bishop Hartley based his sermon on the meaning of this season, the Epiphany, which means a manifestation or showing forth, in this case the showing forth of Jesus to the world in the persons of the three Magi or Wise Men. This is the first of many examples of the manifestation of Jesus to the world, such as his displaying his wisdom in the temple at the age of twelve, and his baptism in the Jordan River by John the Baptist in today’s gospel, St. Mark 1:1. We also see the same theme in today’s Old Testament lesson in the 34th chapter of Exodus in which we see that the face of Moses shone with light after meeting God on Sinai, thus displaying God’s power. This theme was repeated in the Epistle for the day, Romans 12:6 in which Paul instructs Christians on how to show their faith.
After the service we held our bimonthly dinner and vestry meeting. Congratulations are in order to Jennifer Berthold for being named to the College of the Ozarks fall 2011 President’s List. Jennifer is very active in our church and we are proud of her accomplishments.
All are welcome at St. Francis Anglican (Traditional Episcopal) Church where Bishop Glen Hartley holds services Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Our website is stfrancisavamo.org.
