Our menu for this week is Monday, January 23—BBQ meatballs, baked potato, corn, fruit. Tuesday, January 24—Beans with ham, cornbread, spinach, oven fried potatoes, cake. Wednesday, January 25—Cashew chicken, rice, egg roll, oriental vegetables, jell-o. Thursday, January 26—Open-faced turkey sandwich, mashed potatoes, peas, pudding. Friday, January 27—Spaghetti, green beans, garlic bread, salad bar, cookie. Our meals are a suggested donation of $3.50.
Our activities include: OATS bus to Ava on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, OATS bus to adjoining county (West Plains) on Tuesday; Grace Health Care foot clinic (with appointment only) and driver’s exam on Thursday; pitch tournament on Monday at noon. On Wednesday, the Middle School Choir will be doing vocal solos from 11:15 –11:30.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. Approximately 500,000 new cases are projected to be diagnosed this year. Common symptoms include disturbances in memory, attention and orientation; changes in personality; and language difficulties. Americans, age 85 and older, are one of the fastest growing segments of the population and with the highest risk. Research is currently studying type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance, special proteins in blood and spinal fluid, whether stem cells can be used and how oxidized lipids may increase production of the toxic beta-amyloidal by raising levels of beta secretase protein.
