Six people escaped serious injury in a wreck at the intersection of Highways 5 and 14 in Ava last Friday night, but the crash created considerable traffic congestion for about an hour.
The wreck happened at 5:27 p.m., just as many people were getting off work and heading home for the day, or catching up on last-minute Christmas shopping.
Lt. Trent Murray, of the Ava Police Department, reported the wreck occurred as a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer driven north on Highway 5 by Jacqueline R. Finley, 25, of Ava, made a left turn into the path of a southbound 2011 Chevrolet pickup driven by Larry W. Turner, 52, of Bakersfield.
The officer’s report stated the northbound vehicle made a left turn on a solid green, left-turn-yield light.
All those involved were treated at the scene by personnel with Cox Ambulance and Ava Fire Department. No one was taken to the hospital.
Finley suffered minor injuries in the crash. The other driver and passengers were all apparently uninjured.
Passengers in the Finley vehicle were Addalyn Hayes, age 3, and Chace Finley, 7 months, both of Ava. Passengers in the Turner truck were Kelly Turner, 57, and Chelsi Adams, 15, both of Bakersfield.
Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
Ava residents were involved in a two-vehicle wreck on Dec. 20 on I-44 in Phelps County, resulting in minor injuries to one of the individuals.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the wreck occurred at 11:20 a.m. at the 200-mile marker in the Patrol’s Troop I.
Both cars were traveling west on I-44 when a 2007 Pontiac driven by Raymond B. Hobbs, 23, of Ava, rear-ended a 2003 Suzuki driven by Kendra R. Fosberg, 22, of St. Robert.
Fosberg sustained minor injuries in the crash, as did a passenger in the Hobbs car, Kaysha N. Hobbs, 19, of Ava. Both Fosberg and Hobbs were taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center by St. James Ambulance.
Raymond Hobbs was not injured according to the Patrol report.
