What a truly wonderful time of year this has been. God has blessed us with great weather to get to all the places we needed to go. We had services at church Sunday, and I was pleasantly surprised to see such a large crowd gather for our services. We started at 10:00 with singing Christmas songs. We then had a few specials sung by the youth; Sarah and Abby Hampton’ and Jon Mitchell. Donald preached a Christmas message starting in Luke. I’m sure a lot of people know the true story of Christmas, but it’s still good to hear it read again and again every year. It is truly the story that never grows old. The story of God’s love for us, and sending His son to earth, is the greatest love story ever told.
I know lots of members from our church had celebrated with some of their families on Christmas Eve, but others were going to celebrate after church services. Sometimes it takes two or three get-togethers to have time for all of our families and friends.
We started out Friday night with Christmas for our kids and grandkids. Roger had to start the turkey, because I had to work. I did get home in time to help with the rest of the dinner. The presents were already wrapped and under the tree. When the family got here all we had to do was eat and of course watch the kids open their gifts. The kids had a great time as well as did the adults. Saturday, I went up to the nursing home and took some presents to my mom, Bob and Angie, and visited with them a while. Sunday after church, we went up to Howard’s and ate lunch with them and played a few games.
Today is Monday and no work, you know off for the Holidays. Wouldn’t you know it, I am working anyway cleaning house and playing with the grandkids. It is nice to get a day off work once in a while.
It’s hard to believe that it’s almost time for the New Year. I gave up making resolutions for things I was going to do and never carried out. If you do make a New Year’s resolution this year, how about one to serve God a little better this year, and to give Him a little more praise. Saturday night (New Year’s Eve) we usually get together at church and do a little singing and of course eat and visit. If you aren’t doing anything else for the starting of the New Year, you are more than welcome to come and join us.
Now it’s time to say so long to the year of 2011 and may you all truly have a wonderful and blessed 2012.
