The Skyline R-2 Board met in regular session on Thursday Dec. 15, with four members present. The consent agenda items were discussed and approved.
In old business the board discussed the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) with revisions being suggested.
In new business the board voted to pay for cell phone usage for certain employees.
The superintendent was appointed as the foster care liaison for the school. The board discussed the short and long range capital project goals for the school. The ballfield and fence were completed last year along with Smartboards being placed in all of the classrooms.
The need to upgrade technology throughout the building was discussed. One of the goals of the board is to purchase a smaller bus for field trips and short bus routes. The long range goals still include purchasing and installing a better security system, improving the gymnasium, and purchasing a new walk-in freezer.
The board stated, however, that most of these goals will not happen in the near future because of decreased funding from the state and federal government.
The board made a motion and approved the school board policy allowing employees to communicate with students by electronic media. The policy states that any personal communication between employees and students shall be appropriate in nature and must be available to the student’s parents/guardians.
In the superintendent’s report: Enrollment for November was 90 K-8 students and 10 students in preschool.
School board candidate filing runs from Dec. 13 through Jan. 17. Skyline will have two 3-year positions available. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Thursday Jan. 9, at 7 p.m.
