I was in trouble at church this weekend. Guess what for, for not getting my article in the paper again last week. I made up all kinds of excuses, which I thought sounded pretty well, but they were just excuses. Sometimes we do that in our lives too. God wants us to do things for him and we tend to make up all kinds of excuses or delay by saying not now, maybe later. We should listen to what God wants us to do for him and be willing to follow where His will leads us.
I have been doing the kind of things everyone else is out there doing. I have been Christmas shopping. I went one day with my two sister-in-laws, Carolyn and Donna. We always do a little shopping and a lot of visiting. We ran into my neighbor Barbara while we were out. Friday night I was back doing a little more shopping and who should I run into, but my neighbor again. We did talk a little about our grandchildren, and about their Christmas program.
Roger and I took our grandkids, Braxton and Alexis to the church program at Highlonesome, Saturday night. Wanda Hutchinson and Tammy from our church were also there. We got to see a lot of friends and neighbors. The best part for me was watching my oldest son, Dustin and his wife, Tina and their three kids in the program. It was great to be in church with all five of my grandkids.
Sunday I had all my class for Sunday school and we had a good practice for our program. It will be Saturday night. The kids are always so excited about being a part of this. We as adults should always support our youth in their work in the church. My class is going to sing lots of songs during their part of the program. I have some kids who really enjoy singing. Tammy and Tina are working with the older kids and I have yet to see it. I want to watch along with everyone else this year. I can’t wait and I hope you make plans to attend.
Tammy and Wanda told me that our superintendent and good friend Larry Hutchinson put a float in the parade and actually won second place. We are very proud of him. I know his grandkids love to ride in the wagon as he drives his tractor.
I kept grandkids all weekend, Braxton and Alexis, Saturday and Saturday night and Sunday after church. I had Courtney, Rilee and Logan for the afternoon. Tina’s mom was in the hospital. We sure pray she is doing better. As always our church has a long prayer list, you don’t even have to know who they are to help us pray for them. Just pray and God knows who they are.
Patty Nelson requested “O Holy Night” Sunday night and we didn’t have to have the words to it in our book we was using. During the specials I looked until I found one copy, so I had Jon Mitchell help me sing it. It is one of my favorite Christmas songs. My mom would have been proud, no practice or anything. We just did it acappella, and all three verses. They are just as beautiful. When you stop to actually read the words in some of these songs, they will bless you.
It is time to close and start thinking about getting ready for another work week. Remember as you get ready for Christmas, what this season truly means. Each and everyonone of us should know that God loved us enough to send His son Jesus to be born in that lowly manger. It was that precious gift of love that we are celebrating this Christmas. As the saying goes, “Jesus is truly the reason for the season.”
