An Ava man and his father died Monday morning in a tragic collision in Seymour, involving their dump truck and a Burlington Northern train.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Chad A. Lee, 34, of Ava, was driving the 1990 International dump truck that drove into the path of the eastbound train. Lee’s father, Gary R. Lee, 58, of Seymour, was a passenger in the southbound truck.
Both men worked for the Seymour Road District whose truck the men were in.
The wreck occurred at 8:10 a.m. at the Oak Lawn Road crossing, one mile east of Seymour. The crossing does not have signal devices and is marked only by crossbucks, the Patrol said.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Webster County Coroner Michael Taylor.
Timothy W. Flower, 62, of Springfield, operator of the locomotive, was not injured. There was only minor damage to the train which was driven from the scene.
Funeral services for Gary and Chad Lee will be held in Ava Friday morning.
