The Ladies met Thursday morning to continue their Bible study, “The Power of a Praying Life” by Stormie Omartian. Prayer is important in the lives of the people at Bethany Baptist Church. The men meet for prayer before Sunday School, Sunday morning and the women meet for prayer before church Sunday evening.
Dan Stillings sang a special song, Sunday morning. Pastor Bob Sorensen brought a message from Isaiah 6:1-13 he called, “Holy, Holy, Holy.”
The good King Uzziah had died, the land was in a state of moral decay, and Judah was surrounded by enemies. Isaiah was in the temple of the Lord, when he saw a vision of the Lord. When he saw the majesty of the Lord, he also had a vision of himself, and of the world.
The Lord God was upon a throne, high and lifted, and all who were in heaven bowed down before him. Isaiah response to the presence of the Lord was to fall in worship and humbleness as did Moses, Joshua, and Paul when they each met the Lord. But this throne of worship and holiness is also a throne of grace, for these sinful men found mercy. It will be a throne of judgment for those who reject that grace.
Isaiah was awed by the holiness of God and glory around the throne and by the shaking of the doors and the house around him. His vision of himself is summed up as “Woe is me! For I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips,…” When he was in the presence of holiness his own sinful condition was made obvious. Pride had no place here. And he was changed. You can not come into the presence of God without being changed.
Isaiah also had a vision of the condition of the world. He said that he dwelt in the midst of a people of unclean lips. Isaiah volunteered to go. When the voice of the Lord said, Whom shall I send? Isaiah said, Here am I; send me. The Lord sent him out to “Go,.. tell this people.” He was to go for as long as the need existed.
The world today is in a state of uncertainty. There is war, economic failures, and uncertainty about the future. There is drug abuse, domestic violence, and national scandal. People wonder what is the solution. The solution would be for the world to turn to God and put their faith in his Son Jesus. The call still goes out today, “Go…Tell this people.”
