God spoke to Abraham.  It’s in Genesis 12:1-2.  He told him to move.  Now, Abraham must have heard him because that is exactly what he did.  Our sermon was taken from Hebrews 1:1-2.  It starts off telling the reader that God has spoken in many different ways.  He has spoken through the prophets and so on.

There is a book available called How To Listen To God by Charles Stanley.  Pastor Stanley says that God is still talking and still in many different ways.  Maybe not in the same old ways mentioned above but in new ways.  First, he speaks through His Word; second, through the Holy Spirit; third, through other people; and, fourth, through circumstances.

First example, through His Word.  Some years ago, I read in II Chronicles 20:7 that Jehoshaphat called Abraham God’s friend.  ‘God’s friend’ went straight to the center of my heart. Even now, I wake up and think about God’s friends and how I can be one.  Second example, through the Holy Spirit.  A few years back, I was attending a meeting that was extremely emotionally charged.  I could feel myself being tugged into something frightening.  I prayed hard and asked the Holy Spirit to protect me.  Peace surrounded me.  Third example, through other people.  Sister Carol sang ‘The Anchor Holds’ today.  Brother John reminded us of Hebrews 6:19 which says the word anchor.  I had needed that verse and couldn’t find it.  Fourth example, through circumstances.  Since June my husband has been through 4 retina surgeries and 1 laser surgery.  It has been very draining for both of us.  God sent us a comforter.  A woman sat down beside us before the last surgery and we visited.  We’ve seen her twice since then.  Her message:  “I believe.”  Something we all need to repeat over and over.

What have I learned?  Friendship is a two-way street.  Friends talk to each other.  And they listen to each other.  Saul and Jesus weren’t friends when they had their first conversation (Acts 9:4-7).  But they soon were.  And just look at how that turned out.

Copies of the sermon are available and free.  Call (4l7)543-6219 to get a copy.  Have a God-blessed, God-inspired, and God-filled week.
