Douglas County Checks More Deer This Year

Douglas County Conservation Agent Mark Henry said there is no true pattern in analyzing the 2011 Missouri firearms deer harvest.

There was not a pattern shown this year in deer harvest numbers locally, he said. However, two local counties were in the top three statewide.

Douglas County ended the season checking 68 more deer than last year with 2,021 deer.  Christian County was down 46, checking 1,103.

Ozark County’s harvest was up by 113 with 1,909. Taney County was down 202 deer with 1,656 along with Webster that was down 151 with 1,539.  Wright County was also down by 65 deer with 1,605 deer checked this year.

Neighboring Howell County was the top harvest county with 3,483 deer checked this year, up 237 deer from the 2010 deer season.  Texas County, also a neighboring county to Douglas, was the third highest county with 3,283 which is 152 higher than in 2010.
