Ava Senior Center

The character word for this month is compassion.  Certainly during the stress of the holidays, each one of us can show a little more compassion to those who are hurting, to those who have lost loved ones and this is their first Christmas alone.  Reach out to those seniors who are going through a rough time.

Our menu for this week is Monday, December 5—Cheeseburger, onion, lettuce, German potato salad, sherbet.  Tuesday, December 6—Chicken and dumplings, peas and carrots, wheat bread, salad bar, jell-o with fruit.  Wednesday, December 7—Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, pudding.  Thursday, December 8—Swedish meatballs, rice, mixed vegetables, salad bar, cobbler.  Friday, December 9—Ham and beans, cornbread, oven fried potatoes, stewed tomatoes, cake.  We offer nutritious, delicious meals each day for a donation of $3.50.  Come by and meet new people or visit with a friend while you eat.

Our activities include but are not limited to: The OATS bus route is Ava to Springfield the first Monday each month; Douglas County to Springfield the third Monday; rural Douglas County to Ava second, third and fourth Mondays; Ava to adjoining counties second and fourth Tuesday; and south Ava to Ava on every Wednesday and Friday each month.  Please call the center (683-5712) for a ride.  They must have at least three to make the trip to Springfield or the trip will be cancelled.  OATS transportation is available to anyone regardless of age, income, disability, race, gender, religion, or national origin.

The driver’s exam will be in the basement on Thursday starting around 9:30 and Grace Health Care will be here for the foot clinic beginning at 8:50.  You must have an appointment for the foot clinic—call the Center at 683-5712.

Congratulations to these winners of the Pitch Tournament held on Monday:  Sue Pool (209), Millie Heavener (194), and Virginia Silvey (190).  First place winner will receive a free meal ticket for three meals.

Until next week, have a good one!
