An Ava man, Lee A. Tyra, 20, took quite a ride but suffered only minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash Sunday morning north of Ava.
The wreck occurred on Douglas County Route B, seven miles northwest of Ava.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Tyra was southbound on Route B in a 2011 Chevrolet pickup when he crossed the centerline and ran off the left side of the road. The truck went through a fence, struck a tree and came to rest in a field, according to Patrol Sgt. Keith Jones.
Tyra was extricated by Ava Rural Fire Department from the pickup that sustained extensive damage.
Tyra was wearing a seatbelt, Sgt. Jones said.
It was first reported that the wreck occurred on Old Highway 5, two miles north of Ava, so the City of Ava Fire and Rescue was initially dispatched, along with Ava Rural Fire Department. When no wreck was found there, it was determined the mishap was on Route B and the city department was canceled from the call.
