Grand Jury Indicts Former Douglas County Deputy On New Charges –– 53 Indicted

On Friday, Nov. 4, a Douglas County Grand Jury indicted former Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy James Verow for the second time, but on new charges.  The two-count indictment includes one charge of harboring a fugitive, named as co-defendant Anna Moreland, and one charge of tampering with a witness in a judicial proceeding, again co-defendant Anna Moreland.

Verow’s bond was set at $60,000 by the Douglas County Circuit Court.  He is currently incarcer­ated in lieu of bond.

In other business, the Grand Jury also indicted 53 other defendants:

Vehicular alcohol assault – 2;

Felony DWI – 3;

Rape – 1;

Statutory sodomy – 1;

Sale of drugs – 2;

Manufacture of drugs – 5

Possession of drugs – 8;

Aggravated assault – 2;

Child endangerment – 2;

Burglary – 6;

Stealing – 6;

Receiving stolen property – 8;

Property damage – 1;

Motor vehicle tampering – 3;

Aggravated domestic assault – 1;

Child support – 5

Prosecuting Attorney Roger Wall expresses gratitude to the people who make the charging of criminals possible, and appreciation for those who testified in front of the Grand Jury including crime victims, sheriff deputies, city police officers and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Wall also acknowledges the members of the Grand Jury for performing a public duty for very little pay.  “Without the cooperation of all of these folks,” Wall said “the criminal justice system would grind to a halt.”

All indictments are sealed until the apprehension and arrest of a defendant. And all defendants are presumed innocent until found guilty.
