A 13-year-old Skyline R-2 School student died in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 14 east of Ava early Sunday morning.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Dane M. Solomon was a passenger in a pickup driven by his grandfather, Billy J. Solomon, 67, of Mtn. Grove.
The 1996 Ford was traveling west on Highway 14 when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the roadway and overturned. The pickup struck several trees and a ditch.
Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt, the Troop G report stated.
Dane Solomon was transported by ambulance to Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava where he was pronounced dead by Douglas County Coroner Rick Miller.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Clinkingbeards in Ava.
The driver, Billy Solomon, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
The crash was investigated by Tpr. Justin Piccinino of the Highway Patrol.
This was fatality No. 32 in Troop G this year as compared to 31 at the same time last year.
