A lot has been going on around our mountain the past two weeks. I know a lot of people are out deer hunting. It all started with the youth season. Several took their kids out and taught them how to hunt and hopefully get a deer. I know a few happy, young kids who were successful at it this year. Now it is regular season and we have a lot of our loved ones out in the woods. I always pray that God keeps them safe. It is also nice when they get to bring home some nice meat to eat. Maybe I shouldn’t tell anyone that I have been seeing a nice big buck as I drive to work in the morning. Hmmm, I gues I just did.
Last weekend, we had a surprise 90th birthday party for my mother. It took some doing to get everyone here without her knowing about it, but it was worth the effort. I have a lot of people to thank for their help. I took off work Friday and my daughter-in-law, Tina and I made and decorated cakes about all day. You can read more about this in her story, but anyway, Roger and I didn’t make it to our church this week, we went to Red Bank to be with my family.
This weekend started off with our special youth night for our kids. We had several gather in and started off singing a couple of songs. We then played a couple of games. Let me tell you, Frances Hampton is like me very young at heart. She was the first to volunteer to try a game. I told them I had a game that would be like two of the fruits of the spirit. It would teach gentleness and patience. I then brought out a big bubble blowing gun and told them they had to blow a bubble and with their breath keep it up in the air. Some of the kids were very good at this. We also had a game of matching Bible verses. After the games we gave Bibles to all of our youth. They were presented to them by our pastor and the deacons. Then we all ate pizza. It was a very special night.
Sunday, several of the kids were very proud to bring their Bibles to church with them for Sunday school. It did our hearts good to see them carrying their Bibles.
Next Sunday night will be our Thanksgiving supper, and I look forward to lots of people coming out for this and everyone telling something they are thankful for.
As we approach, this Thanksgiving season I hope you also are giving thanks to God for all the wonderful things He has given you. If you have nowhere to go to share your joy and thanks, come and join us, but no matter where you are always give God the praise.
