Ava Area Animal Welfare League Junior Met November 10

The Ava Area Animal Welfare League Junior met on Thursday, November 10th on the campus of Ava R-1 Schools. Members in attendance were: Brandy Johnson, Ali Hall, Karen Davis, Kacie Abels, Pat Patton, Mary Chipps, Marilyn Alms, and Jeri Stewart.

Members introduced themselves and made a short statement about what they would like to see happening in our area concerning animal welfare. Some of the statements made were: “Generate more funds”, “Have a no-kill shelter”, “Pay it forward and give back to the organization that helped me when I needed help”, “Make sure all pets have a warm and safe place for winter”, and “More community involvement in the AAAWLJ”.

Members made “Thank you” cards to send to some of our recent donators, speakers, and to area businesses. We cut and folded colorful paper or card stock to fit envelopes then cut pictures from magazines and pasted these pictures on the “cards”. Members then wrote a short “thank you” message on each card. They really did a great job on these and it is obvious these cards come from the heart of individuals who really love their pets.

Start looking for our CAT spay/neuter program to kick off. Most cats breed during the late fall of the year and we would like to get as many of the cats fixed before we have an outbreak of unwanted pets early next spring. Look for coupons in the Douglas County Herald newspaper for a reduced cost for spay/neutering your cat.

This past year the AAAWLJ has helped offset the cost for about ninety (90) pets in our area. Last year we were only able to help with about fifty-six (56). Our grant we won late last spring helped with about sixty-four (64) pets alone. Our organization continues to make a positive difference….but…we still need your help. Help support this program by making donations to our collection cans (located in area businesses), making cash donations to: AAAWLJ, PO Box 1885, Ava, MO  65608, getting involved with the organization, collecting Best Choice labels, or collecting recyclable ink cartridges. Members and interested individuals may join our e-mail list at aaawlj@gmail.com for notification about upcoming meetings, agendas, and the latest meeting minutes. Our next regular meeting will be December 8th, 2011 at 3:30 PM in Mrs. Karen Davis’ classroom on the Ava R-1 Schools campus (first room in the long stucco building next to administration office). (Snow date will be December 15th) New members are always welcomed.
