Driver Flees After Wrecking Near Vanzant

A Vanzant man who wrecked the car he was driving on the night of Nov. 1 left the scene with a 5-year-old child in the car.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Matthew A. Allman, 30, was southbound on Highway 95, four miles north of Vanzant, when he lost control of his 2000 Hyundai. The car overturned and struck an embankment and a tree.

The driver left the scene of the crash that occurred at 9:30 p.m., but was arrested by the Highway Patrol at 12:01 a.m., the following morning.

The child that was in the car, Dominic M. Allman, 5, was apparently not seriously injured.

Matthew Allman was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, endangering the welfare of a child, assault, willfully resisting a member of the Highway Patrol, careless and imprudent driving, and no proof of insurance.

He was taken to the Douglas County Jail and was later released.
