Youth Deer Season Harvest Up Statewide

Missouri’s Youth Deer Season was held over the weekend of Nov. 5 and 6. This season gave kids ages 6 through 15 a two-day season to hunt before the regular firearms deer season.

Statewide there were 16,390 deer harvested by youth this year.  This is up 3,135 deer from the 2010 youth deer season.

Youth in Douglas County checked in 180 deer over the weekend.  There were 102 antlered bucks, 26 button bucks and 52 does taken in Douglas County.

Here is a look at the harvest totals for other local counties.  Youth checked 104 deer in Christian County, 194 deer in Webster County, 162 in Wright County, and 194 deer were checked in Ozark County during the youth season.

The statewide high counties were Osage with 369 deer, Franklin with 331 deer, and Howell checked 316 deer during youth season.

Kids that did not get a chance to harvest a deer still have a chance to fill their tags during the November portion of firearm deer season.  Deer season opens this Saturday, Nov. 12, and closes on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

There is also a late firearms youth season on the weekend of Jan. 7 and 8 for kids that still have tags they would like to fill.
