On Nov. 2, Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase distributed 85 coats to the local schools in Douglas County.
Some of the money for the coats was raised during a softball tournament the sheriff hosts every year and the remainder was from donations. Sheriff Degase said the number of coats distributed was up about 20 from the previous years.
Degase began the “Coats for Kids” project during his first year in office and it has become an annual event with slightly over 200 coats being distributed in the last three years.
The sheriff expresses appreciation to all those who have helped make this effort possible, including business sponsors as well as those who participated in the softball tournament.
