Douglas and Ozark Counties Retired Teachers attend MRTA Region 10 Meeting

Douglas and Ozark Counties RTA members Marie Bristol, Norma Stillings, Betty Moore, Julane Williams, Teri Hall, Virginia Parsley, Ida Mae Huse, and Caryl Feiler attended the Region 10 Fall meeting of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel (MRTA) at St. John’s Cancer center Friday, October 28.

Webster County RTA were hosts for the meeting and the theme for this year, “Reach for the Stars” was carried out in table decorations, photos that included a picture of Marshfield’s scale replica of the Hubbell Telescope, and a presentation about Edward Hubbell who was born in Marshfield.

There was a surprise visit by “Teddy Roosevelt” who possesses certain characteristics in common with MRTA Director Jim Kreider.

Awards were given to the  Region 10 nominees for the MRTA Distinguished Retiree for 2011. William Wasson, Springfield, Jane Baker, Lawrence County, Ann Garrett, South Central, Sharon Marler, Wright County, Dora Meikle, Tri-Lakes, Karen Miller, Christian County, and Linda Roberts, Texas County were recognized. William Wasson had been selected to represent Region 10 and then received the state MRTA honor.

Republic, Springfield, and Tri-Lakes received Units of Excellence Awards.

Names of members who died in the last year were read, including that of Dorothy Siler of Douglas County.

Veronica Hambacker, MRTA President, who has retired from service on the PSRS Board spoke for a few minutes on current happenings in the Public School Retirement System and MRTA Director, Jim Kreider gave an update on Legislative issues that can impact public school retirements. It is important to stay informed and be involved in the legislative processes.
