My telephone, mailbox and computer were busy last week with so many wonderful birthday wishes. This is in addition to a birthday party at the Chriss’ home a week ago and then Rex and Arlene taking me to Nakato’s Steakhouse for supper. I still can’t wear shoes. Good thing I still have an old large pair of barn boots for going outside. The x-ray indicated no broken bones but believe me, my foot was mauled. The “shiner” is nearly gone but I’m still in need of ice packs on my foot from time to time after an Epsom salts foot bath. With age our healing abilities slow down.
Friday evening Kim Witchey Fincher dropped by so I fixed us some hamburgers and green beans and she surprised me with two little pies for our dessert as a birthday present. While she was here Marie Huff called to tell me Sonny Huff was severely injured in a horse incident and is in Cox South Hospital with two broken legs, sternum damage and was in severe pain. It seems we “older” ladies should not be fussing with horses no matter what we consider urgent reasons. Sonny and her husband, Cecil, own and operate Bucks & Spurs Guest Ranch. Sonny does all of the cooking, cleaning, etc. for the guest ranch and is such a sweetheart that the guests always go away happy. Her involvement as she hopefully fully recuperates will be sorely missed by all. Please do offer up prayers for Sonny for complete healing.
Another friend called Friday evening to say she had just had a lumpectomy and is undergoing radiation. It would be good for all of us to remember in prayer all those who are going through injury, treatments, pain, loss, and for their families who also must cope with such.
Our mail man for lo these many years, Terry Ireland, is now retired. I’m sure he received many thank you notes from those on this route for his years of helpfulness and his ready smile.
Grandson Nick and his wife, Angel, stopped in for a visit one evening. Never get to see enough of them. They can’t be here for Thanksgiving or Christmas so we are thinking about a holiday gathering some time in between when they are available. That will take some planning.
Here it is Monday evening and I have candy by the door, lights on, and no little ones ringing the doorbell. Same thing at Randy’s place even with all the adorable Halloween decorations put up. Hopefully the little ones are at some church gathering for the occasion.
Jamey Herd wrote that she doesn’t have anything to report for this week’s column and no one else has given us any news. Perhaps people are no longer interested. How sad.
