The Ava Lions Club will hold its 70th annual Halloween Costume Contest on the Ava square next Monday night, Oct. 31.
The Lions Club has announced that the festivities will begin at 5 p.m., with businesses open from 5 to 6 for young trick-or-treaters. The Lions Costume Contest in the gazebo will begin at 6 o’clock.
The Lions are asking parents and other individuals to park their cars on the square, decorate their trunks and allow the little ones to trick-or-treat the cars.
Cash prizes from $5 to $1 will be awarded to five places in each category, then the first place winner in each class will come back and compete for one overall grand prize.
In addition, a $20 prize will also be given for the youngest and oldest contestants entered.
Age groups will be adjusted according to the number of participants in each category. All participants will receive a candy bar from the Lions Club as well as a carton of chocolate or strawberry milk.
Everyone is invited to come down to the center of the square on Monday night and see the creative costumes.
This annual event provides youngsters – and those not so young – an opportunity to dress up for Halloween and have a good time with their friends in a wholesome, safe environment.
