Norwood Area Gleanings

Our town is saddened by the death of Judy Boykin. She had many friends here. They operated the Glen’s Propane and were very active in Norwood businesses. When Elmer Tharp was living they worked for him many years. She will be missed very much.

I was pleased to have all my family here last Sunday for dinner in honor of my 87th birthday. It was a beautiful day also. There are 34 of us now.

I saw a specialist in Springfield yesterday concerning my leg sore that doesn’t want to heal. He thinks it has to do with my circulation in my legs. It’s beginning to get serious. Pray for me, please.

The revival closed at Oak Forest last Friday night. It was a successful endeavor. They also collected plenty of money for the termite project. It has been sprayed and repairs are to be made. We want to thank the Eastern Gate Church northwest of Ava for their support. Bro. Donald Potter is their pastor. We thank each one for their support.

Bro. Robbie Colton of Marshfield will close the revival at Victory Hill Church north of Macomb tonight. He and his family are appreciated very much. Thanks to all that participated in any way.

A distant cousin of mine, Barbara Hylton, daughter of the late Eldon Hylton, called me from California last Thursday. I had met her brother Eldon Jr. at our school alumni at Norwood a few years ago. I enjoyed the visit very much and she plans to visit our area again soon and will come and see me. Her grandparents were Floyd Hylton and first wife Mae Ryan daughter of John Ryan. My grandfather Joseph Ryan’s brother. She, Barbara visited Joe and Mary Hylton in Mountain Grove and they visited several places including her dad, Eldon’s home place in the Cornelius district.

Several attended the Norwood Senior Citizens dinner at the Caudle Church last Tuesday. Several couldn’t attend for some reason but several did. We had so much good food and fellowship. Those in attendance were Joan Williams our number 1 person. Ronnie and Janet Atchison Linda Cottengim, Wanda Helums, Hubert Strunk, Marybell Summers, Linda VanderBogart, Joan Sanders, Donna Climber, Velma Gray, Roy Dean Gray, Phil and Sue Durden, Earlene Dennis, Bonita Raney, Jr. and Alberta Steinert, John and Shirley Shores, Jack Chadwell, Leon Pendergrass, Donnasue Cottengim, Wayne Cottengim, Leo and Ruth Bradshaw, Angie Richardson, Clara Morgan, Zach Williams, Courtney Stout, Esther Stout and Michael Sanders.

Shawn and Shelly Chadwell are celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary this weekend. They are spending it at Branson. Their children stayed with their grandparents, Joe and Teresa Chadwell. Shawn is my first grandchild. He was very special but we have other specials now to go with him. He and Shelly took Leo and I out to dinner Wednesday for my birthday which was Monday. We ate at the Mexican place where the Pizza Hut once was. We love Mexican food. We enjoyed going and being with them.
