Middle School Bears Close Out 2011 Football Season

The Ava Middle School Bears closed out the 2011 football season at Mountain Grove on Tuesday, Oct, 11.

The Bears were defeated by the Panthers 36-8 in the 7th grade contest. Mountain Grove led 30-0 at halftime. The Bears’ lone score of the night came in the fourth quarter when Kelly McDonald capped a 13-play drive with a one-yard touchdown run. McDonald also ran for the two-point conversion.

Leading tacklers for Ava were Brandon Johnson, Blake Litwiller, and Cyprus Phillips with four tackles each, Coach Jeff Pool said.

Mountain Grove defeated Ava 30-6 in the 8th grade game. Mountain Grove led 14-0 at halftime and extended the lead to 30-6 in the third quarter.

Ava’s scoring came in the fourth quarter when Caleb McFarlin completed a 25-yard pass to Nate Bray for a touchdown.

The leading tackler for the Bears was Paul Porter with seven.
