Eastern Gate and Around the Mountain

Did you think you weren’t going to hear from me again? I did have good intentions, but I would get started on the work week and the next thing I knew it was too late to get my article into the paper. That is also how we get in our Christian life. We have good intentions, and the next thing you know life is quickly passing you by and what have you done for Christ. Don’t wait until it’s too late, start today, and serve God like today is the greatest and possibly the last day you have to show God how much you love Him.

Donald held a revival at a church in Norwood last week. Several of our congregation made it over to help them out. Our youth went Friday night, I know how much that meant to Donald. Roger and I only made it two nights. Bud, Jon and I sang some specials for them and so did our youth. This church is trying to reopen its doors after being closed for several years. I know they would appreciate your prayers.

Jimmy and Alice Nelson rode to the revival with Roger and me one night. Now I have to tell you that Alice keeps telling Roger that she does not like to go for thrill rides. I think Roger hears “I like thrill rides” or maybe it’s selective hearing. Anyway she may never get back in a car with him again. A few years ago Roger scared her on a hayride and the other night, he forgot about a corner coming up, and let’s just say he took it a little too fast.

Donald and Portia fixed a good supper of chili and cobbler for all of us after the revival Friday night. We got to see his house and visit a little while in their home.

We have been practicing the Christmas programs at church during Sunday school. The kids always enjoy it so much, and I guess I am just young at heart because I enjoy it also. My kids were all telling me how big of a part they wanted. Some like to have big parts, some just a little part and some kids just want to be in the program. We as parents just like to watch our kids do things to honor Christ.

I went to the nursing home and saw my mother, Bob and Angie Friday night. They are all doing well. Bob and Angie had been to the fitness day and won some awards. Mom used to go, but now she likes quieter games. Last Friday night while I was visiting them, I ran into Kerry and Dana Lafferty. They were getting ready to sing and have preaching. I played the piano for them and help them sing. We sure miss them at our church. I know that since they have moved it’s closer for them to go to church by their home. I heard that Jaki Lafferty and Grace Mitchell were cheering at the game Friday night. I hope they had a great time.

A friend at work said that it’s good to have someone to smile and talk with, not people who are always complaining. Are you that person that people like to come and be with? Someone who smiles and has a positive attitude toward life, I ask you to stop and look at yourself and see if that is how others see you. Smile and I mean a real smile that makes people want to be around you!
