Douglas County Associate Commissioner Danny Dry (left) and Presiding
Commissioner Larry Pueppke signed a proclamation at the courthouse last Thursday morning in recognition of October being designated Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Associate Commissioner Richard Mitchell was not available on Thursday. Standing in back in support of the proclamation are representatives of the Christos House, a domestic violence shelter in West Plains. They are (from left): Sherry Fohey, Kelly Neil, Amber Brignole and Sunshine Gorskey. On Oct. 21 Christos House will present “Telling Amy’s Story”, featuring actress and advocate Mariska Hargitay and Detective Derdri Fishel; and on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m., “Celebrating Survivors” – a banquet to honor survivors and raise awareness of domestic violence will be held. Both events will be held in the West Plains Civic Center. Both events are open and free to the public.
