The 7th & 8th grade Ava volleyball teams finished their seasons last week playing West Plains on the road and hosting the Lebanon Yellow Jackets.
Ava 7th grade beat the Zizzers on Monday, Oct. 3, in two close games, 25-19 and 26-24.
Emily Bailey served 11/11 with 2 aces to keep Ava in the game. She was also 4/5 passing; Sandra Buff was 5/5 serving, 13/18 passing and had one kill; Maci Jones was 3/3 passing; Kira Collett was 25/29 passing and 4/4 hitting with one kill. Paden Coonce was 3/4 serving with 2 aces, and 13/17 passing; Cera Longino was 8/9 serving, 24/27 passing, 17/18 setting and 3/3 hitting with one kill. Shelby Bushong had 5 ace serves and was 7/8 hitting with one kill and Morgan Miller was 5/6 passing.
The girls played an extra 10 minute game that Ava lost 12-23. Emily Bailey was 5/6 serving and 2/2 passing; Tarrah Goforth was 2/2 serving and Shae Wagner was 1/1 serving, 4/5 passing and 3/3 setting.
Ava 8th grade struggled at West Plains, losing two games 16-25, 23-25.
Hunter Shelton was 4/4 serving and 9/12 passing; Bailey Loge was 10/11 serving with 4 aces, and 5/5 setting; Caley Wallace was 4/4 serving, 7/7 setting and 3/4 hitting with one kill. Keeley Deal was 6/7 serving; Allison Welch was 10/14 passing and had two hits and libero Amy Haynes came in during some tough West Plains serving and did a great job passing for Ava.
The 8th grade girls also played an extra 10 minute game that West Plains won 13-24. Molly Henderson was 2/2 serving and 3/3 setting; Kayla Walker had 4 tips with 2 kills and was 3/4 passing.
The last match of the season was played on Thursday, Oct. 6, with Ava hosting the Lebanon Yellow Jackets. The teams were able to play an A match and a B match for both the 7th & 8th grade teams. The regulation matches were played in the middle school gym, while the B matches took place in the high school gym with Coach Liz Kyger and Zach Leonard officiating to give all the players an opportunity for playing time.
The 7th grade match went three games with two very good teams, but Ava could not hold off Lebanon in game three. Ava won game one 25-18, and Lebanon took games two and three by the same difference 18-25, 18-25.
Cera Longino set the ball 17/17 times, served 12/14 and passed 15/17; Shelby Bushong served 5/5, passed 17/19, set 7/7, hit 13/13 with 3 kills, and was 4/4 tips with one kill; Sandra Buff was 8/8 serving, 22/28 passing and 2/2 hitting. Laken Dobbs was 2/2 serving; Maci Jones was 7/8 serving and 17/21 passing; Paden Coonce was 4/4 serving, 3/3 passing and 3/3 hitting with 3 kills.
In the extra match, Lebanon also won 11-25, 19-25. Emily Bailey was 6/6 serving; Morgan Miller was 6/7 serving with one ace; Shae Wagner was 3/3 serving and 4/4 setting; Lacy Diel was 5/5 serving; Tarrah Goforth was 5/5 serving with one ace; and Alex Beverlin was 3/3 serving and 3/5 passing.
Ava 8th grade also played very well against a tough Lebanon team. Ava lost game one, 15-25, won game two, 25-20, but fell in game three 14-25.
Bailey Loge was 9/9 serving and was 3/4 hitting; Hunter Shelton served 7/7 with 2 aces passed 22/28 and had one kill. Haley Barker was 6/8 passing; Caley Wallace was 6/7 serving, 18/18 setting. Keeley Deal was 9/9 serving with 2 ace serves and 9/9 hitting with 2 kills; Katelyn Walker was 3/4 serving with one ace; Hope Evans had one solo block and 4 hits and one kill. Libero Amy Haynes came in and passed against some strong Lebanon serving, passing 8/11.
Ava lost the extra match 12-25, 11-25. Billie Haden served 2/2; Haley Barker passed 11/13 and had one hit; Amy Haynes served 2/2 with one ace. Mallory Allen was 6/8 serving and 3/3 hitting; Katelyn Walker was 3/3 serving, 3/3 setting and had 3 tips. Brittany Shields was 4/4 passing and had one hit; Kayla Walker was 5/5 setting and 2/3 serving and 2/3 hitting; Molly Henderson was 5/5 setting and 6/10 passing.
