Because of the size of the Friendship Hall in the new Dogwood Nazarene Church, it was possible to do what has been desired by friends and families for some time now, which was to have gatherings like surprise birthday parties in a space large enough to accommodate everyone.
It was a joy to share in the celebration of birthdays of both Violet Lakey on Wednesday and Eva Lawrence on Sunday, and I think it is accurate to say that each birthday girl (I will not reveal their ages) was truly surprised when everyone started singing happy birthday as they walked in the double doors to the Friendship Hall.
Violet is a supporter of church and community activities and one of her favorites is the singings that take place in our area churches. She regularly plays her violin and occasionally her mandolin, along with other musicians, and Violet has the ability to play almost any favorite Christian song by ear or play with sheet music.
Eva is often at the church singings and other functions and is one of the biggest fans of the musicians and singers. Though she does not play an instrument herself, she and her husband Sam appreciate and enjoy listening to the local talent that is such a colorful part of our community. If you would like to attend a local singing, most churches list the time and date in the Herald’s calendar of events.
Both ladies have caring hearts and love their families and community. They each serve their local church in a way that brings honor and glory to God and each one has a heart desire that everyone come to know Jesus as their savior.
If the candle is lit, let your light shine.
Until next time, God bless you and your loved ones.
