Ruby Bass was born on Dec. 10, 1923 in the small town of Ava, Mo. She met the love of her life, Jim, in 1943 and they married in 1944. They had two daughters, Carol Ann and Karen, both born in Springfield, Mo. The family moved by car to California in 1953 to join family. Ruby was a devoted homemaker and she and Jim became permanent residents of the West Covina home they first purchased. Ruby’s two daughters and granddaughter, Lisa, all have fond memories of the warm home Ruby and Jim built.
When Jim passed away in 1998, Ruby remained in their home, welcoming family and friends. Ruby was a devoted Catholic, enjoyed home-cooked meals, a good laugh, gardening and her favorite TV programs, especially sitcoms and the news.
She came from modest means, was a living book of stories about life on the farm, never took anything for granted and possessed the rare qualities of elegance and grace combined with impermeable strength. These qualities remained with her until the end. She will be deeply missed, never forgotten and always loved.
