District Tournament Here Next Week
The Ava Lady Bears outscored their opponents 21-1 in softball action this week as the 2011 season rapidly winds down to district play.
Ava will host the Class 3, District 10 tournament Oct. 5-8
The Lady Bears traveled to Willow Springs Monday afternoon and handed the Willow Lady Bears an 11-0 loss in five innings.
Ashlyn Mitchell struck out nine Willow batters and allowed two hits in the shutout victory.
Ava’s only extra-bases hit was a double by senior third baseman Morgan Emerich who scored two runs for Ava.
Senior Abbie Lansdown scored three runs for Ava and Hannah Johnson crossed the plate twice.
Ava hosted Mansfield Tuesday in non-conference action and took a 10-1 win from the Lady Lions.
Johnson was 3-for-4 for Ava with a run scored. Melissa Coonts was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
It was Senior Night for the Lady Bears, with special recognition for the seven seniors: Payton Lakey, Abbie Lansdown, MiKali Elliott, Morgan Emerich, Jessie Eubanks, Ashlyn Mitchell, and Kelsey Regennitter.
The Lady Bears will have a rare Saturday morning game this week as Houston comes in to make up a conference game that was rained out last week.
The Ava girls will play at Springfield Kickapoo today (Thursday), will play at West Plains on Monday, Oct. 3, and will host Springfield Parkview on Tuesday to round out the regular season.
District action begins here on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
