Homeowners in the Ava View Heights subdivision in west Ava were surprised to find a considerable amount of ash on things outside their houses Saturday morning, with no evidence of anything burning within the near vicinity.
The Ava Fire Department, Ava Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and Ava/Douglas County Emergency Management had a hand in determining where the ash was coming from.
The final determination was that the ash resulted from a brush fire that was burning Friday night north of the football field.
It is believed that the large trees near homes on Cottontail Lane – which are
north of where the brush fire was located – caught the ash the night before. As the morning sunshine dried the overnight dew, the ash was released into the air and fell to the ground.
Several people who were at the football game on Friday night had commented on the big fire north of the athletic complex, and both city and county officers had investigated to determine that it was only brush burning.
It appears to be just a strange coincidence that the ash would drop out of the sky onto a relatively small area during the early morning hours.
