Laverna Lorene Hicks, 91 years, passed to heaven on Sept. 23, 2011 at her home with her family by her side.
Laverna was born June 21, 1920 in Squires, Mo., to James and Susie (Manning) Anderson.
Laverna was a lifelong resident of the Ava community. On July 16, 1941 Laverna and Lloyd Wayne Hicks were united in marriage in Hartville, Mo., and to this union four sons were born.
She was retired from working at Spalding Manufacturing Co. in Ava and had also worked in Kansas City area with an ammunition company. She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and especially her Bible. Her joy was being with all her grandchildren and family.
Laverna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd in 1991, two sons, J.C. and Tony Lynn, three sisters, Dortha Plumb, Elma Spurlock and Stella Steward and one brother, J.B. Anderson.
Laverna is survived by her two sons, Roy Hicks and wife, Sharon and Garry Hicks and wife, Lisa all of Ava, Mo.; four grandchildren, Betty Hollaway, Rodney Hicks, Tommy Hicks and Ashley Hicks; one step grandson, Jacob; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Tia, Katie and Tiffany; one sister, Lucille Kelley, Ava, Mo.; nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Laverna were Monday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in the Fannon Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating were the Revs. Billy Hicks and Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to Fannon Cemetery.
