Area fire departments will be meeting in Ava on the next two Saturdays for training exercises that will include live burns.
Firemen from the City of Ava Fire Department will be joined by firemen from adjoining rural departments of the county in the exercise.
This exercise will also serve as a training opportunity for EMT students who will be on hand to assess and monitor the firemen.
Saturday, Oct. 1, will be spent lighting fires and putting them out in a controlled environment. On Saturday, Oct. 8, the house, which is owned by the city, will be burned for demolition.
The house used for this exercise is located on NW 10th St. north of the Ava City Park. Traffic on that street will be limited at times during the training to allow access to fire trucks, and for the safety of firemen.
