Ava Lions Complete One Project; Now Prepare For Next Community Event

The Ava Lions Club has completed their participation at the Missouri Fox Trotter Show and Celebration, but there is little time to rest and reflect as another community service project is on the horizon.
The Ava Lions Club has, for over 60 years, sponsored the Halloween Costume Contest and, once again, will be sponsoring the annual Halloween Costume Contest on Monday, Oct. 31. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the gazebo in the center of the square.
The contest is open to all ages from newborn and up. Prizes will also be given to the youngest and oldest contestant.
The contest will consist of groups in increments of 2-3 years of age, depending on the number of contestants in each age group. Five prizes will be awarded for each group. First place will receive $5, second place $4, 3rd place $3, 4th place $2 and fifth place will receive $1. All first place winners will then participate for the grand prize of $20.
All participants, regardless of age, will receive a candy bar from the Ava Lions and a carton of strawberry or chocolate milk, courtesy of Buddy Irby, distributor for Hiland Dairy.
We are asking all businesses on the square to participate in this annual event by remaining open until 6 p.m. to allow the little gremlins to trick or treat in the safety of the lighted public square prior to participating in the costume contest. Anyone who would like to park on the square and allow the kids to trick or treat at your car within the lighted confines of the square is invited to participate in this 60 year event.
The public is invited to attend the contest and watch as the youngsters participate in this fun filled activity.
If you have any questions you may contact Larry Morrison at 683-0188 or any Lions Club member.
