Ronald (Ron) Smith, 65, of Marshall, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Dr. Phil Soto and Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating. Visitation was held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside services with military rites were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bilderback Cemetery in Conway, Mo. Born May 23, 1946, in Lebanon, Mo., he was the son of the late James Arthur Smith and Ruby Phillips Smith Bryson who survives of Hannibal, Mo. He was a 1965 graduate of Slater High School, was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had lived in the Saline county area for many years.
On May 1, 1971, he married Judith Ann Lirley who survives of the home. He was an ordained Southern Baptist minister, pastoring at Zoar Baptist Church along with many others in various places. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Marshall.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa Ann Smith-Oltmer of Marshall; one son, Matt Smith and wife, Bobbie Jo of Marshall; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Virginia Carrol Salsman of Hannibal and Gracie Riley of Slater; twin brother, Don Smith of Boonville, Mo.; mother-in-law, Nola Maxine Lirley of Ava, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Lee Smith; stepfather, Jasper Daniel Bryson; and father-in-law, Clyde Lirley.
