Lady Bears Win 2, Lose 2 At West Plains Tournament

The Ava Lady Bears were in West Plains last Saturday for a full day of tournament action.

Ava won games over Doniphan 16-0 and East Carter 6-4, but lost to Springfield Kickapoo 9-2 and West Plains 11-2.

Last Thursday, Sept. 8, the Lady Bears hosted Logan-Rogersville and scratched and clawed a win from the Wildcats, 10-9.

The score was tied at 6-all after four innings, but the Lady Bears fought back to take the non-conference win from the visitors.

Rogersville out-hit the Bears 15-6, but Ava had eight walks on the day.

Kelsey Regennitter was 3-for-3 on the day with two singles and a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Ashlyn Mitchell allowed three earned runs, striking out four batters in seven innings.

The Lady Bears traveled to Hartville on Tuesday and took a 10-0 non-conference win from the Lady Eagles.

Abbie Lansdown carried the big stick for Ava in that game, going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored. Regennitter was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.

Payton Lakey had a big 3-run home run and also scored a run for the Lady Bears.

Mitchell allowed just three hits and struck out five Hartville batters in six innings pitched.

In Ava’s win over Doniphan on Saturday, Regennitter was 2-for-2 with a home run and four runs batted in. Kayla Dougherty also drove in three runs with a triple and freshman Callie Eubanks had a 3-run triple for Ava.

Mitchell no-hit the Doniphan team and struck out six batters in three innings of play.

Regennitter had three hits including a home run against East Carter, and drove in three runs in Ava’s 6-4 win.

Ava scattered five hits in the 9-2 loss to Springfield Kickapoo.

Melissa Coonts and Regennitter each had a triple, and Regennitter and Dougherty had runs batted in for Ava.

Regennitter was 2-for-3 at the plate in the 11-2 loss to West Plains with a single and a double, and drove in one run. Dougherty also drove in a run for Ava with a single, which accounted for Ava’s only hits in the game.

Abby Sparnicht pitched for Ava, striking out two batters in five innings.

The Lady Bears will be at home today in SCA action with Thayer.

On Saturday, the Lady Bears will face tough competition in the Branson Lady Pirate Fall Classic.

Ava will play Bolivar at 9 a.m. and Springfield Kickapoo at 10:30 in pool play. Other teams in the tournament are Lebanon, Cassville, Willard, Branson, Hillcrest and Fair Grove.

On Monday, Sept. 19, the Lady Bears will host Mtn. Grove in SCA play, and on Tuesday the Ava girls will play at Lebanon.
