Homecoming Candidates Named; Theme Announced for Next Week

Next week, Sept. 19-23, will be Homecoming Week at Ava High School with special Spirit Week activities planned every day.

The theme for Homecoming will be “Adventures in Wonderland” with special days focusing on Alice In Wonderland topics.

For example, Monday will be Pajamas Day. (As Alice gently falls asleep and begins to dream…).

Tuesday will be Fake Injury Day. (She chased a rabbit into a hole and down she fell…).

Wednesday is Psychedelic Day. (She encountered many strange things. Sometimes she was too tall and sometimes she was too small…).

Thursday is Favorite Alice in Wonderland Character Day. (She met many strange and wonderful characters…).

Friday is Blue and Gold Day. (She longed to get home so she could celebrate…).

Also on Friday, Sept. 23, there will be a pep assembly in the high school gym beginning at 1:30 p.m. The assembly will be followed by the annual and traditional Homecoming Parade at 2:30.

The parade will begin behind the main high school building and will travel in front of the Ava Middle and Ava Elementary Schools before it turns onto Jefferson and makes it way up to and around the square.

The Ava Bears will host the Thayer Bobcats in the SCA football game at 7 p.m. Friday. Prior to the game, the Ava Pride Band will take the field at 6:45 for a musical prelude.

King and queen coronation will be held at halftime of the football game. Queen candidates named last week include Emily Sterling, Payton Lakey, and Jessica Burress. King candidates are Chase Dixon, Kody Kutz, and Jeff Smalley. All six candidates are seniors at Ava High School.
